Qinshan Nuclear Power Unit 1 has an initial design life of 30 years and was originally scheduled to expire in 2021. In 2014, Qinshan Nuclear Power officially started the extended operation of the unit, also known as "extended life". It is the first nuclear power unit in China to apply for extended operation.
